Something didn't sit right with me when I watched this film. I can only describe it as political correctness shoved in a beer can, shook up and spouted back out at the viewer.

A cantankerous old man watches his neighbourhood become populated by immigrants and he can't stand them, let alone the weeds and peeling paint that goes along with it. One night, he hears a gang disturbance next door, loads his rifle, strides across the lawn on his Korean war veteran legs and breaks up the trouble. Anyone else would have been gunned down at this point, but then there would have been no film.

This act suddenly makes him a neighbourhood hero, and everyone turns up so grateful, with flowers and plates of food (give me strength)! He grunts and spits and insults his way through the movie, but this doesn't put the immigrants off. They persist until he grudgingly lets them into his life.

The film was slow,very patronising and very very predictable.

This is no chick flick. It's no superficial over-budget happy ending to cheer your glass of Bubbly. It's not a polite society evangelically scripted look into "the way folks live". I could tell ya it's a deep look into society and cultural common grounds in a context of recent history and modern inner city living, but you'd get the wrong idea.

It's a touching, gritty and powerful story of a man with values and the strength of character to hold onto them in a society which has largely lost the ability to look after itself. A man who above all holds self-assurance and self-dependence as marks of worth in a person. It addresses the family values held dear by many ethnic societies, but lost by the west. It examines how an old man, from an age where family and community were king finds these values defended and maintained strongest in the minority cultures he has rallied against. Mr Eastwood is a master of his trade.

This film blew me away, I found tears on my face... Fantastic.

I saw this film at the cinema and loved it - I did not see the end coming but my friend did! Got the DVD to watch it again as I enjoyed Clint Eastwood's performance as a grumpy guy so much.

The movie is just amazing. I feel for the old man living in a bad area like myself, And having to encounter gangsters...

I like how he bonds with the kid that tired to steal his car, I do love this movie It is one of my all time favorites so full of relative stuff
