Amazon.co.uk Reviews If a weekend of team building exercises in the woods sounds like your personal idea of torture, spare a thought for the poor pen pushers of Severance. As if the obligatory paintball and trust exercises weren't enough, there's a killer lurking outside their cabin--a killer holding a grudge against the unsuspecting employees of Palisade Defense... Severance is one of the best British horror movies to come out of the last couple of years. It's smarter than it has any right to be; screenwriter James Moran neatly sidesteps the numerous clichés littering the genre, balancing eye-watering gore with almost surreal humour, while Creep helmer Chris Smith's assured direction sells even the daftest (and cruellest) moments. Smith also draws great performances from a talented cast, including Dead Like Me's Laura Harris, Black Adder's Darling Tim McInnerny, and Danny Dyer of Mean Machine and The Football Factory. Horror fans will lap this up; those lacking an iron stomach might watch some scenes from behind laced fingers, but will appreciate the fast-paced action and black humour nonetheless.--Sarah Dobbs

Fantastic!!!! January 28, 2010 Mr. M. Manning (UK) This is a fantastic horror film with lots of comedy thrown in. Its is very gory at times, but this all adds to the fantastic scary storyline. I rented the film to watch and then had to rush out to buy it to add it to my collection. This is a must see movie for any true comedy or horror fan. One of the best films to come out in recent years.
You shall be Entertained! January 4, 2010 O.Khan (Chelsea, London, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
An all-round stimulating thrill ride: gore, thrills, suspense, "whodunnit", laughs and fine acting from all the cast. A rare movie that actually manages to keep its audience interested throughout its duration. You really can't blink or you may miss a laugh or scare!
A solid popcorn flick, best watched late at night, lights down.
Brilliantly Funny July 19, 2009 Ms. C. A. Lorac (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
A lovely surprise to find although there is lots of blood this is a funny film, all the actors compliment each other, and the story line is good.
It has elements of the League of Gentlemen about it, and one of the characters not giving the story line away redeems himself
Funny witty with great special FX
Must be seen to appreciate it
Gory, Good Characters, Some Dark Humour, Brutal Killers ...And Heads DO Roll! April 26, 2009 Adam Jackson (Stoke On Trent , England) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This movie pleasantly surprsied me! The production values were high, the characters affecting with decent acting EVEN from Danny Dyer!
The movie does have a healthy dose of very black humour but not in any way that affects the tension or the horror elements. It is a horror film and definiteley NOT a horror comedy.
There was only one scene towards the end involving an unfortunateley misguided rocket launcher & a very unlucky jet plane that really stretched things too far, but overall the setpieces were excellent, the killers were effective (think of Wilderness meets Deliverance by way of Hostel) and the FX were excellent - very gory in parts as you would expect from the director of Creep. Particular FX highlights were a graphic presentation of a disembodied head's ability to remain sentient for several seconds after Severance (sorry) and a very realistic leg amputation courtesy of a bear trap - and a rather nasty knife where the sun doesn't shine moment.
A pair of rather attractive, Eastern European escort girls are not exactly unwelcome in the mix either, but the movie does refrain from any explicit sexual scenes - still nice eye candy though!
There is good use of build up & atmosphere to balance the gore, and the movie makes good use of the forest locations with excellent cinematography - a bit similiar to Wrong Turn despite set on a different continent.
Unusually for this type of movie, I found myself to be sympathetic to the characters that for once do not fall into the annoyingly whiny teenage bracket.
A good quality, gory horror movie with a dash of dark humour - perfect for a friday night & a couple of beers and a curry.
